Behind the Mayhem
Behind every chaotic character, fun story and moment of wild magic, you'll find a group of people who simply couldn't imagine doing anything else.
Critter Chaos has been built from a drive for social play - breaking the day-to-day and giving people a chance to truly experience the world around them with the help of our carefree critters and their comical caretakers.
While the critters may take the spotlight, it takes a team behind the scenes to keep them looking their best at every appearance.
Drawing on their combined experience, gained from charity roots and a passion for creating personal connections, our team works hard to make sure every moment is one of play and wonder for all who choose to step into our world.
We worked with James and Emily for a charity fundraising event a few months ago and would highly recommend them. Their communication was spot on in the lead up to the event and were a pleasure to deal with. They bring a wonderful upbeat energy to their work and adapt seamlessly to different ages and personalities of children. They're absolute experts in their field and helped us raise more donations than we expected. Good luck in your new venture, we can't wait to work with you again!

Our Team

Jamie Hopper
Founder
After finding a love for character performance in 2013, James spent years developing his understanding of all components that help a critter come to life.
Having spent over a decade immersed in the world of costume characters, James looked to use his resources to help local charities in fundraising, supporting important causes and giving him opportunity to develop his performance skills in front of tough crowds, out on the streets of Liverpool and the surrounding area.
Now working in the professional sector, James loves to bring his skills to new places - Performing for “Something Special” as a credited puppeteer, conducting large-scale national and international character work for numerous UK agencies and now forming part of the core team supporting Finnie the Unicorn at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
James’s training and experience in large-scale event organisation and logistics ensures every appearance runs like clockwork (with a healthy dollop of play baked into the schedule).
Emily Shaw
Creative Lead
Emily has been involved in the world of theatre and events since 2013, working as a ghost actress and tour guide from a young age in local theatre.
Inspired by her theatrical roots, Emily began making and performing her own costume characters from 2018, self-teaching construction and design techniques through trial and error to support events in her community where she could have a real impact.
She has since transitioned to working professionally in the sector, supporting a variety of national and international roles including character tours, activations and stage events.
Through her costume design and maintenance experience, as well as artistic background, Emily keeps the Critters in top condition and provides the business with its creative vision.
